Incantus

2007

Since it is so. From where we are, joy does not exist. Our skin gets thicker and cracks around our joints. We have to kill. Have to kill something to see. Have to let go, undo one’s burden, lose weight, fast, drink to reach a space where the body finds air.
Air for a music carrying us close to a trance. Which trance-ports us. It’s the only way.
No other way out. Notes, a chant giving rhythm to the quasi-vacuum striving to retake possession of our space: the stage.
Heroes for a few seconds but our only hope. We want to see them in the light one more time.

Come and confront ourselves
To summarize the state of our intentions at the current time.
Come and confront ourselves since it is indeed a fight to define our desires and express them on stage. Come and confront ourselves to define this moment when one enters onto the stage, when the body takes form and the movement begins.

Through an exploration of relationships between sound, voice and image; trifling the perception’s automatisms and driving to a specific attention to bodies, Incantus works on an incantatory matter, calling on the dancers to assert their presence and to liberate the movement.
A collective call to the stage to define the issues of the choreographic act, enabling it to find its areas of strength, its points of support. A collective call with no preconceptions, considered as the sum of experimentations carrying it to embrace space in a founding act.

Incantus was created on November 28th 2007 at Le Quai, CNDC Angers.
